Eastbourne Tennis Club in Meads - ROMPA
About Meads Eastbourne Tennis Club

ROMPA was formed in 1981 with the object of ensuring that the fields already used for recreational activities in Meads continued to be available for the benefit of the immediate and the wider community.  ROMPA is a non-profit making registered charity and as such membership is open to all who live in Eastbourne and the surrounding areas.   ROMPA’s grounds are located in Upper Carlisle Road in Meads through a gate which leads down steps to the Pavilion, but there is also disabled access through a wider gate on the corner of Upper Carlisle Road and Carlisle Road.

Tennis

There are four all-weather courts.   Two are hard courts and two are artificially grassed and equipped with floodlights.   There is disabled access to the hard courts for wheelchair play.

In addition there are three grass courts which have been established by the Lawn Tennis Association to meet the practice needs of players participating in the pre-Wimbledon AEGON Eastbourne International Tennis Tournament in June at Devonshire Park.   Last summer these proved to be very popular amongst the players participating in the Tournament.   Club members have full access to the grass courts (weather permitting) from the end of June until mid or end of September.

Club sessions, to which new adult members are welcome, are held as follows:

Residence of Mead Tennis Club Playfield Assoication - Eastbourne Tennis Court
  • Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.00 to 11.30 am
  • Wednesday evening from 5.00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1.30 to 4.30 pm
  • Monday afternoon from l.00 to 3.00 pm (men only)

Members may book the courts for their own games outside the Club play times and any pre-booked coaching sessions.

A Club tournament is held in the Summer and other informal tournaments and social events are arranged throughout the year.   ROMPA members also participate in the Sussex Mixed Veterans Summer League and play some friendly matches with local clubs.

Guests of members are welcome to play on three separate occasions at a fee of £3.00 per session (Juniors £1.00).  Guests wishing to play on more than three occasions are expected to join as full playing members.

Coaching is available for adults and juniors and there is a Club Coach.  Juniors have a full coaching programme including tournaments, and Family tennis days.   Junior coaching groups are also open to non-members of ROMPA.
